Jerri A. Harwell
Jerri A. Harwell was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. She has her own business, EDIT-WELL, and is a freelance writer and editor. This is her first full length book. She is also adjunct faculty/instructor at Salt Lake Community College where she teaches developmental writing. In addition, Jerri does a one woman portrayal of Jane Elizabeth Manning James, an early Black Mormon pioneer at This Is the Place Heritage State Park in Salt Lake City, Utah. Jerri also wrote the script for her portrayal.
She and her husband, Donald L. Harwell, have been married seventeen years. They have six children, four of whom are still at home. Don serves as President of The Genesis Group, which is the LDS Church’s official auxiliary for Black Latter-day Saints, organized in 1971; in addition he serves on his Stake High Council for the Midvale Utah Union Fort Stake.
Jerri is the Senior Editor for The Genesis Group’s newsletter, which serves as communication tool for African-American members of the Church around the world. She has served in two Relief Society Presidencies; taught in Relief Society, Sunday School, and Primary; and held numerous other callings in the LDS Church. She often accepts speaking assignments for firesides, sacrament meetings, symposiums, conferences, and conventions. In 2004, she was a presenter at BYU’s Women’s Conference speaking about prayer.
