I am a special witness of Jesus Christ.

Jesus called me to be one of his apostles when he began his ministry, and for three years I walked and talked with him. I also defended him before the people of Jerusalem, and mourned with him when those people rejected his message. Yet I never truly understood Jesus and his mission until those final, painful days of his life. During that week I watched my dearest friend transform from being not only a powerful teacher and healer, but to become the Savior of the World.

John the Beloved’s role in sharing the final days of the Savior’s life has been overlooked. He stayed close to the Savior during those crucial final hours, becoming an eyewitness to the supreme sacrifice of Jesus Christ. This account is based on John’s own words as found in the Bible.

Based on John’s own words as found in the Bible, the touching storyline combines with the striking artwork to create a wonderful, spiritual reading experience that can be enjoyed by readers of all ages. You will feel a new love and appreciation for the apostle John—and for the Savior Jesus Christ.

"Readers become privy to Jesus' last days on earth as experienced by his loyal and caring disciple John in this picture book about the Passion. Though Daybell (the Tiny Talks series; the Emma trilogy) takes some liberties by having John address readers directly in the text, the material here is largely summarized from the gospel of John (including scripture references) and will certainly sound familiar to its core audience. "The Savior's final week continued with a special supper with his twelve apostles. I was privileged to sit beside Jesus... I had always known Jesus to be quick to smile, but he was carrying a heavy burden." The solid composition of Murray's careful portraits evokes a solemnity and gravity particularly appropriate for the subject. The backgrounds, landscape and clothing suggest the ancient era, though John and other characters occasionally appear contemporary-looking in contrast. Those who wish to examine the devotion of Jesus' inner circle more closely, or who are looking for a slightly different approach to this story, will find much to like here."

"Although this is a children’s book, it is lovely enough to be on the reading list and coffee table (cocoa table?) of any LDS adult... Both Daybell and Murray have delved deep into their hearts to create this inspired book. Their combined insights ensure you will have a precious new understanding of the powerful emotions and experiences of the Savior’s final days on earth in his own time. This is a moving story that will touch and enlighten every member of your family."
